PTS, CPR, canfitpro Associate Pro-Trainer
Being active all my life, I have a love for fitness. I played lacrosse for 4 years when I was younger on the house league and travel team. Being a part of every sport throughout grade school and high school was a huge priority of mine. I obtained my first gym membership when I was 18, and immediately fell in love with the atmosphere of the gym. After taking a year Pre-Health Science program at St. Clair College, I was completely lost about what kind of career I could have in this field.
I then stumbled upon a 1 year program at Everest College. Graduating from the Health, Fitness, and Nutrition Consultant program with honours, I knew that training was what I wanted to do. I taught group fitness at Lifestyle Family Fitness for a year after graduating, and have now been training and teaching group fitness here at Refine, for two years.
Recently I have become an Associate Pro Trainer through canfitpro for Mike Bates, which has opened up so many opportunities for me. I love educating others who are passionate about fitness as much as I am. I have the greatest job in the world!

Facets of my life which directed me to a career in the fitness and health profession: an active lifestyle, being always driven to learn, questioning that which is status quo, working with my hands, having an incessant need to optimize everything, and a desire to help people. To elaborate and simplify, this job also combines two traditionally distinct and opposite personality types, the "jock" and the "nerd". I am both!
I am currently enrolled in the Kinesiology program at the University of Windsor. Through this education, the more I study how the human body works, the more I become amazed with it. How all of the systems and structures work to maintain a balance and adapt to the stimuli of the environment and exercise. I am truly intrigued by it all, a contributing factor as to why I am passionate about my work.
I love my job. To me, there is nothing more satisfying than watching someone transform into the person they’ve always wanted to be. I love empowering people by turning them into efficient problem solvers. It is very rewarding to provide my clients with the support system they need not only to achieve their goals, but to maintain them for life.
I specialise in weight loss and weight loss management as well as nutrition and wellness counselling. I also create exercise and nutrition routines for busy lifestyles. Furthermore, I create corrective exercise methods to alleviate back, shoulder, knee and other joint pain.

Although I have been active in sports for years, fitness did not always come easily for me. My first experience with a personal trainer was a ridiculous mix of painful exercises and an unrealistic diet of mostly lettuce, chicken and egg whites! Fast forward a few years and post-baby #2 and I was motivated to embrace healthy changes for the better, starting with a new trainer who cared about me for all of the right reasons and not just because I was part of her pay cheque. She was wonderful and supportive and it was an eye opening experience for me. I wanted to be that girl!
Now fitness is calling to me – it is pulling me in a direction I cannot ignore. I was plodding along through the motions of life when I had a light bulb moment, “Hey Jen, wake up and go do what you really want to do!” I registered for the Personal Training Specialist course the next day and every day since I am reminded that I made the 100% right decision. I strongly believe that although it may not be easy, CHANGE IS GOOD! Not only for myself, but I am absolutely thrilled to be able to help others make positive changes in their own life. I love to learn and being a trainer provides the perfect opportunity. I am excited to be a part of the team at Refine Fitness. I am excited for the changes that will come for me but I am even more excited about the changes that will come for my clients with our help and through their own hard work and dedication!
It may be a slow start for some, but you have to get up, get moving and get it done!

Working as a trainer has been awesome! I have wanted to work in fitness since I started working out in high school so, waking up and coming to the gym everyday is a dream come true. I played football for 9 years and that's where my drive comes from. Being in a competitive environment teaches you that giving up on your goals will get you nowhere. If you really want to achieve something, it is possible if you are 100% committed. Also, being in a team atmosphere for that long teaches you to also have fun while doing something good for yourself because you form friendships with the people sharing a similar experience. If you are having fun, it is easier to stay committed and chances are you're probably going to give your best effort. That 100% effort is the key to success when it comes to fitness! I was able to compete against CIS caliber athletes after working with my strength and conditioning coaches because I learned a lot of things I would not have learned elsewhere. I do my best to pass on this knowledge to the clients at Refine to help them reach their fitness goals! Living with injuries and pain can be difficult but working closely with people to help relieve some of that difficulty make this job so rewarding.

I love fitness. I strive to do my best to stay fit, live healthy and keep myself educated in the fitness industry. I firmly believe that there are 3 key elements that are mandatory to reach your fitness goals: commitment, patience and confidence. You must be 100% committed to your workout AND nutrition program. You have to be patient because there will be bumps in the road, but that is your chance to turn your obstacles into opportunities to stay strong and focused on reaching your goal. After pushing through the tough times, you will automatically build the confidence to know that you can reach your fitness goals. I take advantage of every opportunity to help other people reach their fitness goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle and I am lucky to have the opportunity to work at Refine Fitness.
